Crikey! Australia Zoo - June 7 2010

Ed - my best watching was the fast things (the otters) and the kangaroos, the best feeding thing was the elephants and the best ride was the bouncy castle. I got to feed the elephants.

Rosa - The best thing was feeding the elephants .One sucked it up and the other one curled its trunk round my hand.

Sarah - Second night in the camper van went well, and the pack-up was smooth, so it was goodbye to Caloundra and off to Australia Zoo. Crikey, what an outfit. Large, really well set out, immaculately kept and with such good living spaces for the animals, but very commercial. Really loved seeing the otters, the Tasmania Devils, the red pandas and the Aldabran tortoises to name a few, and feeding the elephants was a real highlight, as was the crocodile part of the Wildlife Warriors Show. Got the chance to get up close to the koalas again, and also managed to snap photos with Lucy the wombat (wombats are so cute) and several other animals including the dingoes. Checked out the sick and recuperating wildlife at the Wildlife Hospital and then, feeling rather Irwin-ed out, called it a day and headed for the hills. We meandered up the Blackall Range to what is called the Sunshine Coast hinterland, and after a quick trip down to the Baroon Pocket Dam, we settled on a spot on the side of a street in Maleny to park up for the night.

P.S After many options and much debate, settled on "Pearl" as a fitting name for the camper van, so Pearl joins TREBSontour.
Dad- Pearl for perfect! What a great way to travel - in a self-contained house on wheels. 6-speed and gutsy we whip along the highways keeping up with the locals, she handles well and is easy to set up when we park up for the night. With all the mod cons and heaps of room its proving the perfect way to see Queensland. Good on ya Pearl!
