Exploring Brisbane

Thursday 3rd June - decided to give ourselves a lazy day so didn't set off for the day until 11.00ish. Drove over to New Farm and had a delicious brunch at the Deli New Farm, then hit the motorway for Logan, about 15 kms south of Bribane, for....Ikea. Everyone was excited when we got there, the kids to find they got to spend an hour in the supervised sign-in/out playland and Mum and Dad that we could spend an hour in Ikea child-free! Only just managed to restrain ourselves from freighting purchases back to NZ, but did come away with some additions to our baggage! Oh for Ikea in NZ..
Back via the supermarket, then Dad went to drop the car back and for a quick whirl through the Queen Street mall shops.

Friday 4th June - another slow start, but we were on the ferry by late morning and set off on a walking tour of Brisbane city. We started at the Customs House, then walked up past St Stephens Cathedral to Anzac Square and the cenotaph with the eternal flame. From there we went uphill to King Edward and Wickham Parks to check out the old mill which is now an observatory. Down past City Hall and the bell tower, on to Queen Street mall for a quick look at the department stores, then past the Treasury (now the Casino) to the Parliament buildings and a well-deserved picnic and rest in the Botanic Gardens. After all that walking, even Mum and Dad were tired so we headed back to Kangaroo Point for a couple of hours R&R. While at the pool/spa the large resident lizard came out to say hello.
Early evening we jumped back on the city ferry and headed down to South Bank where we did the Brisbane Wheel, a 60m high observation wheel. The gondolas are lit up with over 60,000 LED lights, and the city itself was sparkling with all its lights.

From there we all enjoyed a burger at a great wee place on Grey Street then wandered back through South Bank to our ferry and back to the apartment. A great last day in Brisbane.
